Christopher Rees

Christopher Rees is a consultant at TaylorWessing’s Corporate group. His practice is focused on technology across IT, telecoms, internet, engineering, energy and space sectors. Mr Rees’ expertise covers not just transactions and projects but also regulatory and governance issues. He has also guided many clients to successful resolution of disputes both through the International Court of Arbitration and in Arbitral fora. His practice is truly international with many of his clients being based outside the UK. Prior to his current role, Mr Rees was partner at Herbert Smith, partner and managing partner at Bird & Bird, and European Counsel at Data General Ltd. He has a BA in Law from the University of Cambridge, and was admitted as a lawyer in England and Wales. He is also a Herbert Ruse Prizeman. Mr Rees is a member of the Council of the International Bar Association, Chairman of its Computers and Database Committee, Chairman of its Geoinformation Convention Project and Member of the Computer Law Group. He is a widely published author in his field, with articles in the Law Society Gazette, the International Bar Journal, the Data Protection Law and Practice, the Computer Law and Security Report, and contributions to the Freedom of Information Handbook, and the Data Protection Handbook, amongst others. Mr Rees is the only lawyer to be consistently ranked as one of the Top 3 Technology lawyers in the world from 2000 to date and is ranked in both Chambers and Legal Business as a leading practitioner for IT and Data Protection since 1996 with sources commenting in Chambers 2016 that he is ‘considered one of the father figures of data protection.’
